Benefits

  • A Reliable Water Supply - Replacement of water mains and service connections will reduce the instances of bursts and water outages and will ensure a reliable supply of water to customers and local businesses in the area.
  • Reduced Leaks - Replacement of water mains and service connections will eliminate existing leaks and reduce the amount of clean drinking water lost into the ground.
  • Improved Operation and Maintenance - These works will deliver cost savings by providing improved water network operation that will require less maintenance in the future.

Steps

  • The works will involve the replacement of over 1.3 kilometers of problematic water mains with polythylene (plastic) pipes.
  • Works will begin on 23 October 2020.
  • The works are primarily being undertaken on the Clontarf Road from the Clontarf Road/Dollymount Wooden Bridge Junction to Mount Prospect Avenue.
  • A further 150m section from Mount Prospect Avenue on the Clontarf Road is also to be constructed.
  • Additionally, over 200m of new water mains are to be installed on Watermill Road.
  • Works are expected to be completed on 30 November 2020.

Will customers be affected by the works

Areas of work will be limited to short sections to minimise impact on customers. Traffic management in the form of a stop-go system will be in place during this time. Local and emergency traffic will be maintained at all times.

Works will be carried out on the northern side of the road/path of Clontarf Road. The cycle lane infrastructure on the southern/shore side will remain open and unaffected throughout the works.

The works may involve some short-term water shut offs and the project team will ensure that customers are given a minimum of 48 hours notice prior to any planned water shut offs.
