This €9 million investment will provide a long term upgrade of the aging water networks in Swords which has a long history of bursting and causing significant disruption to customers in Swords, Portmarnock and Malahide.
It is estimated that this project will reduce leakage by 44 million litres of water per month and provide a reliable water supply to householders and businesses.
Latest News
- Uisce Éireann has completed works to replace 5.2 kilometres of water main from Ridgewood through Main Street, North Street, and on to Swords north M1 motorway junction. This water main has been prone to significant bursts in the past, especially on the Forrest Road, causing significant traffic disruption; these works will alleviate these issues into the future
- These works were be carried out by GMC Utilities Limited on behalf of Uisce Éireann. These works commenced in January of this year and have been completed ahead of schedule
- The completed works will provide a more reliable water supply for homes and businesses in Swords and also residents in Malahide and Portmarnock served by the Malahide Reservoir
- Uisce Éireann would like to thank residents and businesses in Swords for their patience throughout this essential project to reduce leakage

Steps
- Replacement the existing leaking concrete pipe with a modern plastic pipe
- Replacement of water mains from the junction with Cooks Road and Forest Road and terminating near the Swords M1 motorway junction at Lissenhall over a length of 5.2km Replacement and installation of new valves, and branch connections
