Smear Water Treatment Plant Upgrade
Uisce Éireann has completed works to upgrade the water treatment plant in Smear, Co. Longford to benefit over 4,500 customers in Aughnacliffe and the surrounding area.
Uisce Éireann, working in partnership with Longford County Council, has upgraded the water treatment plant in Smear, Co. Longford. This project will benefit over 4,500 customers supplied by the Gowna Water Supply Scheme to ensure the delivery of a clean, safe drinking water source and remove the area from the EPA's Remedial Action List (RAL).
The water treatment processes at the plant were inadequate in protecting against the formation of elevated concentrations of Trihalomethanes (THMs).
