Uisce Éireann in partnership with Fingal County Council has completed upgrades to the wastewater infrastructure at Quay Street to cater for the future growth and development of the wider Balbriggan and Stamullen area. These works were carried out as part of Uisce Éireann's Growth and Development Programme and were completed in October 2024.
The works involved upgrading the existing pump station and storm tanks, located under Quay St car park, and increasing the pumping capacity to support future social and economic growth in the area.
What does the project involve?
The works consist of upgrades to the existing facilities at Quay Street Wastewater Pump Station including foul pumps, storm pumps, storm tank screens, foul and storm pipework, valve chambers and ventilation and odour control facilities.
What are the project benefits?
- Supporting social and economic development - This project will facilitate social and economic growth, including planned residential development.
- Improving the wastewater network - Upgrade works will increase the capacity to deliver reliable, sustainable high-quality wastewater services.
- Network performance - Operational response times and operational resilience will be improved.
Works Update
To date, over 50% of works have been completed. All required civil works will be completed in January. Next month all electrical and mechanical works will be completed.
Commissioning is planned for March 2024, and reinstatement works will be carried out by Fingal County Council as part of the Quay Street and Environs Project.
Will customers be affected by the works?
In order to safely facilitate works, Quay Street car park, south of the canal, will be closed.
Traffic Management may also be in place at times on Quay Street to facilitate works between the car park and control building.
There will be some construction noise associated with the works, carried out during the day and within licencing conditions.
We understand that this type of work can be inconvenient and works crews will make every effort to minimise any disruption these necessary works cause. Standard working hours are 8am - 7pm Monday to Friday and 8am - 1pm on Saturdays. Any changes to working hours will be communicated in advance.
