Mullingar Regional Water Supply Scheme
Water Project
Uisce Éireann has completed works to provide a safe and reliable drinking water source for Mullingar and the surrounding areas.
Uisce Éireann, working in partnership with Westmeath County Council, has completed works to improve the water supply for Mullingar and the surrounding area. These works will benefit over 48,000 customers to ensure the delivery of a clean, safe drinking water supply, and remove this area from the EPA's Remedial Action List (RAL).
The existing monitoring, control and inhibits at the Portloman Water Treatment Plant, which supplies Mullingar with drinking water, were inadequate to mitigate against and prevent inadequately treated drinking water going into supply. The completed upgrades have modernised and improved the water treatment monitoring and control process at the plant and the water supply has been removed from the EPA's Remedial Action List (RAL).
What is involved?
- Installed turbidity monitors on the existing ultrafiltration unit at the water treatment plant in order to monitor treated water quality.
- Provided additional alarms, controls and inhibits to effectively mitigate against inadequately treated drinking water going into supply.
Benefits
- Enabled the removal of the Mullingar Regional Water Supply Scheme from the EPA's Remedial Action List (RAL).
- Improved monitoring and control of treated drinking water quality.
- Improved plant reliability and resilience.
- Safeguard the water supply to this area.
- Ensured compliance with current drinking water quality regulations.
