Enniscorthy Regional Water Supply Scheme
Water Supply Project
Uisce Éireann has commenced a €19 million upgrade to the Enniscorthy Regional Water Supply Scheme.
Uisce Éireann, working in partnership with Wexford County Council, has commenced a €19 million upgrade to the Enniscorthy Regional Water Supply Scheme. The project which will benefit over 11,178 consumers, will ensure a reliable and sustainable water supply for Enniscorthy and surrounding areas, as well as allowing for future growth and development. David Walsh Civil Engineering Ltd. Is delivering the project on behalf of Uisce Éireann.
Currently, the Enniscorthy water supply infrastructure has limited resilience, with deficient intake arrangements and undersized raw water mains, which has led to frequent outages and water quality issues for the Enniscorthy supply. The existing intake area at Clonhaston, which will be replaced, is subject to flooding/damage on a regular basis and is restricted for operation.
The supply is also currently on the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Remedial Action List, which identifies water supplies that are in need of improvement. The investment will address these deficiencies.
What is involved as part of this project?
- Replacement of the raw water intake at Clonhaston to transfer water from the River Slaney to the Vinegar Hill Water Treatment Plant (WTP).
- Replacement of 2km of interconnecting raw water main.
- Construction of a new pumping station.
- Upgrade of the water treatment facilities at Vinegar Hill WTP.
- Landscaping and all associated site development works.
What are the benefits of this project?
- Ensure a reliable and sustainable water supply for Enniscorthy and the surrounding areas.
- Improve the efficiency of the facility.
- Provide capacity to support future growth and development of Enniscorthy.
- Remove the supply from the EPA's Remedial Action List.
- Ensure compliance with national and EU regulations relating to the provision of drinking water.
What are the next steps?
The project commenced in April 2024 and is due for completion in late 2025.
