Blessington Wastewater Treatment Plant Upgrade
Uisce Éireann has completed an upgrade of the Blessington Wastewater Treatment Plant.
Uisce Éireann, working in partnership with Wicklow County Council, has completed an upgrade to the Blessington Wastewater Treatment Plant. The wastewater infrastructure in Blessington was no longer suitable to meet the needs of the area. This project has upgraded the treatment processes at the existing wastewater treatment plant in Blessington - improving its capacity and allowing for future social and economic growth in the area. These upgrade works have also ensured compliance with national and EU legislation. Veolia Water Ireland carried out these works on behalf of Uisce Éireann.
What was involved as part of this project?
The project involved the following works:
- Increasing the capacity of the wastewater treatment plant to serve a population equivalent of 9,000
- Installing a new Primary Treatment system, including an inlet pump station and two primary sedimentation tanks
- Upgrading the existing Aeration Tanks
- Installing a new Odour Control System and associated works
- Construction of a new treatment tank and associated pipework to enable future capacity

- Provided wastewater services that meet the needs of both domestic and commercial customers in the area
