Works underway to restore supply to An Spidéal customers
Uisce Éireann and Galway County Council are carrying out emergency repairs to a significant burst to a watermain in the centre of Spiddal village, affecting supply to customers in Spiddal and surrounding areas today. Crews are working to repair this burst as quickly and as safely as possible and in line with COVID-19 protocols. The Spiddal to Moycullen Road will be closed while these repairs are underway and traffic management and diversions will be in place. Updates will be available as the repairs progress on the Uisce Éireann website under the water supply and service section.
Supply has been maintained to most areas through the diversion of flow through alternative sections of the pipe network so the vast majority of customers will have continuity of supply, including all Non-Domestic customers, but customers in high areas to the north of the R336 both East and West of Spiddal village will have much reduced water pressure.
Tim O'Connor, Uisce Éireann, explained: "Uisce Éireann is working with Galway County Council to repair a significant burst which is causing water outages to a number of customers in areas surrounding An Spidéal today. People living and working in these areas are asked to conserve water where possible and to only use what they need whilst continuing to adhere to public health advice on hand washing and hygiene regarding COVID-19 while these repairs are underway. Simple water conservation efforts can have a big impact, such as taking showers over baths and fixing dripping taps where it is possible to do so. There are lots more tips on how to conserve water in your home, business or school on the Water Conservation section of our website."

Uisce Éireann would like to remind people to follow the HSE COVID-19 advice and ensure frequent handwashing.
