Major burst water main repaired in Douglas area of Cork City

Information below is relevant until further updates are provided here or on our Supply and Service Updates section

Uisce Éireann crews have repaired a major burst at the South Douglas Road, and water is returning to customers affected.

The large burst affected up to 2,000 properties on the Douglas Road, South Douglas Road and surrounding areas. Water crews were on site on Monday evening and worked until the early hours of Tuesday morning to restore normal supply to all customers affected by the unplanned outage.

Water Operations Lead for Uisce Éireann, James Goulding said: “In order to address the significant burst, it was necessary to turn off the water in some areas while crews completed the necessary works. We do understand this was an inconvenience to our customers and we sincerely thank our customers for their patience. Works have successfully been completed and water is now returning to our customers,”

Mr Goulding explained that the unplanned outage may cause discolouration for a period of time but if it persists, he advised customers to phone the Uisce Éireann helpline on 1800 278 278.

“We continue to advise customers not to drink discoloured water and to contact us directly with any reports of discolouration to help us manage the response in real time and to prioritise reactive works. On receipt of such calls, we then undertake flushing in the affected region,” he said.
