A wave of upgrades in the pipeline for North Mayo
Communities across North Mayo and South Sligo are set to benefit from Uisce Éireann’s concerted efforts to enhance the resilience of the local water supply.
Uisce Éireann is progressing with design and planning works to upgrade the Ballina/Lough Talt Water Supply.
As part of this project, additional storage will be built at Lisglennon Water Treatment Plant and new storage facilities will also be provided at Lough Talt.
In the short-term Uisce Éireann has already upgraded two of North Mayo’s water treatment plants.
Homes and businesses in Ballina, Crossmolina, Knockmore, Ardagh, Killlala, Ballycastle, Moygownagh and surrounding areas will all benefit from more than a €1.6m investment in both the Wherrew and Lisglennon Water Treatment Plants.
Uisce Éireann’s Michael McHugh explained that the upgrades to the clarifier process will improve the quality of treated drinking water.
“These upgrades are hugely important for the people of North Mayo. Not only will they provide a safer and more reliable water supply for more than 20,000 customers but they ensure drinking water regulations are complied with.
“These works also increase the potential supply from both plants.”
EPS Group Limited carried out the works on behalf of Uisce Éireann.
