Upgrades to improve water supply and reduce leakage in Galway City
Uisce Éireann, working in partnership with Galway City Council is continuing works to replace approximately 120 metres of problematic, old watermains on the Old Dublin Road near the Moneenageisha Junction that were prone to frequent bursts and leakage and caused water supply disruptions for customers in the area.
The works were due to be completed at the end of March. However due to unfavourable ground conditions, the approach and methodology for the project has changed and a section of the road will need to be cut open to install a new water pipe and ensure successful delivery of the works. These works are now due to be completed by the end of April and will be undertaken in accordance with COVID-19 restrictions while also minimising impacts to customers in the area.
To facilitate the safe delivery of the works, there will be some traffic management in place. Local and emergency access will be maintained at all times. Night time working between the hours of 6pm and 12am will also be required to ensure the safety of the workforce and road users due to existing heavy traffic flows at this junction.
The works may involve some short-term water shut offs and the project team will ensure that customers are given a minimum of 48 hours' notice prior to any planned water shut offs. We understand that this type of work can be inconvenient and works crews will make every effort to minimise any disruption these necessary works cause.
This mains replacement work is part of a significant investment by Uisce Éireann to upgrade the water network in Galway and we would like to thank customers in advance for their cooperation and patience while we complete this essential job.
