Uisce Éireann casts the net wide with €12.5m investment in Killybegs

More than 4,000 Uisce Éireann customers will soon feel the benefit of a host of upgrades currently underway at Killybegs Water Treatment Plant.
This €12.5m investment at the plant will ensure homes and businesses served by the Killybegs Public Water Supply Scheme have a more reliable and sustainable drinking supply.
As Killybegs is the largest fishing port in the country, this investment by Uisce Éireann will ensure that the fish processing industry as well as residential and industrial sectors will have a water supply that they can depend on.
Due to its limited capacity currently, the water treatment plant faces potential for supply disruptions and also lacks sufficient facilities for sludge treatment.
However, these Uisce Éireann upgrades will provide a platform for social and economic development, including the local fishing industry.
Works are well underway with the construction of the sludge and disinfection tanks already complete.
Construction of the sludge building has commenced, and the chemical building will be the next phase of construction. Following that, Uisce Éireann will focus on the mechanical and electrical installations with an expected completion date next autumn.
Uisce Éireann’s Programme Manager John McElwaine is proud to be delivering this essential project for the people of Killybegs.
“This investment by Uisce Éireann will support the economic and social development of the communities living in this beautiful part of County Donegal. Crucially, this upgraded infrastructure will also accommodate future population growth. We’re grateful for the support of the people of Killybegs as we continue to progress the delivery of this essential project.”
EPS Group is carrying out the works on this project on behalf of Uisce Éireann.
