Uisce Éireann advises that the Ballina Regional Water Supply continues to meet regulatory standards
Information below is relevant until further updates are provided here or on our Supply and Service Updates section.
Uisce Éireann is aware of a number of contacts to our customer care centre from customers on the Ballina Regional Water Scheme reporting intermittent taste and odour issues.
Uisce Éireann is treating this matter with the utmost priority. To date, all chemical and biological results are compliant with legislative requirements. Additional sampling programmes are continuing. Extensive network flushing is due to commence this afternoon (Tuesday) and will continue throughout the week in the most affected areas. Customers may experience a temporary disruption to their supply or reduced pressure during this process.
We are currently investigating the source of the intermittent taste and odour issues and continue to test the water to determine the root cause. Where Uisce Éireann becomes aware of any taste and odour issue, a monitoring programme for those compounds associated with taste and odour issues commences to ensure that there is no impact on public health.
Protecting public health is a top priority for Uisce Éireann and we would like to advise customers that the water supply to customers in Ballina is compliant with regulatory standards and is safe to drink once it is running clear. Uisce Éireann advises customers not to drink discoloured water. In the event of discolouration, running the tap for several minutes will usually restore water to a clear colour. The water is safe to drink once running clear. If the issue remains unresolved, we encourage customers to contact us directly.
The Uisce Éireann customer care helpline is open 24/7 on 1800 278 278 and customers can also contact us on X @IWCare with any queries or concerns.
