29 January 2025

Information below is relevant until further updates are provided here or on our Supply and Service Updates section

Uisce Éireann is carrying out essential works to replace a valve and repair a burst water main on Military Road, St. Lukes, Cork City, from 9pm on Thursday ,30 January to 1am on Friday, 31 January.

The essential works are being carried out as part of Uisce Éireann’s Leakage Reduction Programme and will strengthen the water supply network in the area by reducing leakage and improving the operational performance of the water network.

To facilitate these works, a water outage is necessary and will be carried out during off peak hours to minimise the impact to customers. A traffic management plan will be in place for the duration of the works. Local and emergency access will always be maintained.

Works are scheduled to take place from 9pm on 30 January until 1am on 31 January. During this time approximately 2,700 homes and businesses on the Old Youghal Road, Sydney Terrace, Military Hill, Sidney Hill, Sidney Place, Sidney Park, Waterloo Place, Summerhill North Road, Wellington Road, Alexandra Road, Alexandra Villas, Sunmount, Farnmore, Bellview Park, Ballyhooly Road, Gardiner's Hill, Stream Hill, Adelaide Place, Ard Na Laoi, Herbert Park, Lover's Walk, Montenotte Road, Beale's Hill, Falcon Hill, Woodhill Park, Tivoli Estate, Woodside, Trafalgar Hill, The Acres, Tivoli Woods, Castle Avenue, Military Road and surrounding areas may experience reduced water pressure or supply interruptions.

Significant activity on the water network can give rise to increased instances of discolouration. Public health remains our top priority, and we want to reiterate that water is safe to drink once it is running clear. If your tap water is discoloured, running the tap for up to 20 minutes will usually restore water to a clear colour. Uisce Éireann continues to advise customers not to drink discoloured water. If the issue remains unresolved, we encourage customers to contact us directly on 1800 278 278.

Speaking about the essential works, Programme Manager with Uisce Éireann, Brian McCarthy said: “Every effort will be made to reduce the impact of these works on homes and businesses and restore the water supply as quickly as possible. We understand the impact that outages can have on customers and would like to thank the local community in advance for their patience and co-operation during the works.

Once completed, it typically takes three to four hours for normal supply to fully restore to all areas as the water refills the network, especially for those on higher ground or at the end of the network.
