Tullow Wastewater Network Upgrade reaches major milestone

We are pleased to announce significant progress on the Tullow Wastewater Network upgrade. The construction of a new pump station and over 1.8 km of rising main from the newly constructed pumping station to the wastewater treatment plant has been successfully completed. Additionally, the project will involve the construction of a storm tank, new storm water overflow and the decommissioning of the existing terminal pumping station.

The project represents a €17m investment by Uisce Éireann and includes the upgrading of a section of the sewer network, which involves a complex river crossing using specialised tunnelling and sophisticated boring machinery.

This significant investment reflects our commitment to delivering critical wastewater infrastructure that supports communities and promotes growth and development in Carlow. This follows a €10 million upgrade of the town’s wastewater treatment plant, which was completed in 2023.

Highlighting the importance of the project and progress made to date, Esther White, Programme Manager, said: "Work is progressing on schedule and is expected to be completed towards the end of this year. We are now commencing the next phase of this vital project, which will bring significant benefits to the communities of Tullow and the surrounding areas in terms of health, environmental protection, and improved water quality in the River Slaney.”
