Road closure to facilitate essential works on Duleek to Navan trunk water main
Information below is relevant until further updates are provided here or on our Supply and Service Updates section.
Uisce Éireann is happy to report that the Duleek to Navan Trunk Watermain Project is progressing very well. The temporary road closure outside Navan (section of the R153 Navan to Kentstown Road from the junction with the R147 at Timmons Hill to the junction with the R150 at Kentstown) is now complete.
As part of the next phase of works a temporary road closure is commencing on the R153 from the R153/R150 junction in Kentstown to R153/N2 Balrath Cross junction. This temporary road closure will be in place until 27th January 2025. As part of these works, traffic management will be in operation in Kentstown Village for approx. 1 week at the R150/R153 junction.
Access for residents, businesses and property holders will be facilitated throughout the closure period and residents have been informed.
We apologise for any inconvenience this necessary work causes and we would like to thank the community for their continued patience and cooperation while we deliver this essential project for Navan.
A dedicated Community Liaison Officer (CLO) is working on the ground, and we will continue to engage with the local community to keep locals up to date on traffic management systems. Further information can be found on our project webpage.
Describing the project as “critical for the people of Navan”, Uisce Éireann’s Programme Manager William McKnight thanked the community for their patience and co-operation throughout the ongoing works.
“I can’t overstate the importance of this project for the local community. The new 16km regional trunk water main and pumping station will create a strategic link between the Staleen Water Treatment Plant Network, at a point just south of Duleek, and the Proudstown and Carn Hill reservoirs which provide treated water storage for Navan.
Project Manager Pat Wickham added, “This new water main will not only maintain a water supply to Navan if there is any planned or unplanned disruption at Navan’s Liscarton Water Treatment Plant, but it will also support social and economic growth in an area that has seen unprecedented growth in recent years.”
Uisce Éireann is responsible for delivering public drinking water and wastewater services for the people of Ireland. We are committed to enabling communities to thrive by continuously upgrading and developing critical infrastructure to support sustainable growth and development, providing safe drinking water, and enhancing the environment.
