Nighttime water restrictions lifted in Castlecomer

Nighttime water restrictions in place in Castlecomer and the surrounding areas have been lifted. Uisce Éireann will continue to monitor water levels and ensure that customers are updated should any further restrictions be required.
The restrictions were necessary due to low raw water levels in the reservoir and to ensure a daytime supply.
Uisce Éireann wish to thank customers for their patience during the restrictions and especially for their efforts to conserve water.
Jim Fitzgerald of Uisce Éireann thanked the community for their patience. “We have been monitoring the water levels in the reservoir since the nighttime restrictions were in place and I am happy to report that levels have now recovered and the restrictions have been lifted.”

Uisce Éireann wishes to advise customers in the Castlecomer area that nighttime restrictions are to remain in place until 2 September in order to maintain a daytime supply.
Due to ongoing raw water shortage, current nighttime restrictions from 9pm to 9am will continue until 2 September and homes and businesses are being asked to continue to be mindful of their water usage to allow supply to catch up with demand.
Communities in the following areas may experience outages, discolouration or reduced pressure: Clogh, Ardra, Massford, Moneenroe, Coolbawn, Gorteen and Castlecomer. Customers should allow 3-4 hours after the estimated restoration time for supply to fully return.
Speaking about the ongoing restrictions, Uisce Éireann’s Jim Fitzgerald said “We understand the inconvenience nighttime restrictions can cause and want to thank the community for their patience. Water levels have not yet recovered sufficiently to maintain a daytime supply but we will continue to monitor the situation.”

Overnight restrictions are necessary for Uisce Éireann customers in the Castlecomer area over the coming nights to maintain a daytime supply for the community.
Due to raw water shortage, nighttime restrictions are in place from 9pm to 9am until 22 August and homes and businesses are being asked to be mindful of their water usage to allow supply to catch up with demand.

We continue to monitor reservoir levels and thank the local community for their patience.”
Addressing the discolouration problems some customers may be experiencing, Jim explained “The regular network flushing we have been carrying out to alleviate discolouration has been restricted due to the current severe water shortage but we will continue to monitor the situation.”
Uisce Éireann advises customers not to drink discoloured water. In the event of discolouration, running the tap for several minutes will usually restore water to a clear colour.
