Crews will arrive next week in Ballycarranne, Patrickswell, Co. Limerick, to replace over 1.9 kilometers of aged watermains prone to bursts. The works will provide a more secure and reliable water supply for the residents of Ballycarrane and surrounding areas and will significantly reduce high levels of leakage on the network.

The section of works will take place along the L-1425 Newboro, Ballycarrane Patrickswell and L-1427 Ballycarrane, Patrickswell, Co. Limerick.

Commenting on the project, Programme Manager at Uisce Éireann, Brian McCarthy said: “The importance of these works cannot be underestimated.  Replacing these old, damaged pipes will significantly lower the instances of bursts and outages on the network, eliminate existing leaks and reduce the amount of clean water lost into the ground.  The works will also improve the operation of the network reducing the need to manage frequent repairs of aged water mains, resulting in a positive impact on leakage and the daily lives of the residents of Ballycarranne.  We would like to thank the local community for their cooperation and patience in advance as we carry out these essential works”

Traffic management will be in place at this time, in the form of traffic lights and a road closure. The road closure will be in effect from 10 March to 18 April on the L-1425 Newboro,  Ballycarrane Patrickswell and traffic lights will be required for works on the L-1427 Ballycarrane, Patrickswell. Local and emergency access will always be maintained. Traffic flows will be diverted during the duration of the closure.

Works are being carried out by Ward and Burke on behalf of Uisce Éireann with completion expected in April 2025.

This project forms part of Uisce Eireann’s National Leakage Reduction Programme and will help us achieve our 2030 goal of a national leakage rate of 25%. The National Leakage Reduction team has made great strides since 2018 when the leakage rate stood at 46%.
