Uisce Éireann progressing with essential watermain improvement works to safeguard the water supply to homes and businesses in Dublin
Uisce Éireann working in partnership with Dublin City Council is carrying out essential watermain improvement works on the South Circular Road in order to safeguard the water supply to homes and businesses in the area. These essential works are being delivered in adherence with current HSE and government Covid-19 advice.
The works involving the replacement of old cast iron watermains with a new watermain are being delivered by GMC Utilities on behalf of Uisce Éireann. The first phase of these works were successfully completed last weekend with minimum impact on customers. Further works are planned to take place this weekend on Saturday 27 February and Sunday 28 February. Areas of work will be limited to short sections to minimise impact on customers. Traffic management will be in place to facilitate the safe delivery of the works, while local and emergency traffic will be maintained at all times.
Whilst Uisce Éireann and Dublin City Council have reconfigured the network to maintain normal supply to as many properties as possible, some customers in the following locations may be impacted by lower water pressure for the duration of the works; South Circular Road; Rialto; Warrenmount; Dolphins Barn; Donore Avenue; The Liberties and surrounding areas.
Speaking about the works, Matthew Thomson, Uisce Éireann said, "We understand that this type of work can be inconvenient and working in partnership with Dublin City Council we will make every effort to minimise any disruption that these necessary works may cause. The delivery of these essential works will help to safeguard the water supply to homes and businesses in Dublin 8 and surrounding areas ensuring a safer mores sustainable water supply."
Uisce Éireann is working at this time, with our Local Authority partners, contractors and others to safeguard the health and well-being of both staff and the public and to ensure the continuity of critical drinking water and wastewater services. Uisce Éireann would like to remind people to follow the HSE COVID-19 advice and ensure frequent handwashing.
Uisce Éireann is working proactively with our delivery partners and as part of a multi-agency working group to ensure that our construction works are carried out in a controlled and safe manner, in keeping with Government and HSE guidelines to protect workers, their families and the broader community.
